Golem
Immersive theatrical experience in the heart of Jewish heritage.

The True Moment
In complete darkness of the former synagogue, with a single light source, we witness the birth and death of the Golem—a legend born in Poland, on the Lublin Land. This wordless, 30-minute performance is a journey into the depths of the human psyche, told through authentic material: clay sourced from the place where nearly 400 years ago Rabbi Eliasz Baal-Szem created the first Golem, which later became the prototype for characters still present in Western culture today.
In a place where history meets the present, together with the audience we discover the true origins of one of Europe's most important legends.
The legend that returned home
"Golem" is a unique in situ theater performance that restores the memory of the Polish roots of one of the world's most recognizable legends. Stories from the Lublin region became the inspiration for later tales of the Golem from Prague, popularized by Gustav Meyrink, Isaac Bashevis Singer, and many other creators. The performance draws universal messages and emotions from local tradition that resonate regardless of the presentation location.
Artistic Form
The show combines movement theater, music, and elements of documentary film, creating a cohesive, immersive whole. Without words, through body expression, sound, and light, it guides viewers through the process of creation and confrontation with one's own creation. Each realization of the performance is unique and adapted to the character of the space where it takes place—the location itself becomes one of the protagonists, co-creating its atmosphere.
Power of Place
The "Golem" performance is originally presented at the Chewra Nosim Synagogue—the last preserved pre-war synagogue in Lublin. The choice of this space allowed for deeper immersion in the story, turning viewers into participants in an exceptional "ritual" unfolding in a place marked by real history. However, every location where the performance is staged brings new meanings and contexts—the dialogue with the space is what makes each encounter with "Golem" unrepeatable.
Contemporary Interpretation
Our "Golem" is not only a figure from legend but also a metaphor for modernity. In the performance, it becomes a symbol of what society itself brings to life—to carry out tasks for which we do not want to take responsibility.
We invite you to experience a story that returns to its sources to resound anew in every space where it appears.
